Medians per calendar month from Open-Meteo (ERA5), 2015–2026, 2015–2025. The "flying" column is a rule of thumb from rain days (≤ 8 clear, ≤ 16 mornings, above that reserve a date), not an operator statement.

Who flies: one operator, one heliport, seats or the whole aircraft

Helicopter flying in Phuket is one licensed operator, Skydance Helicopters (Advance Aviation), based at a heliport beside Phuket International Airport in Sakhu, in the north of the island. It flies Airbus Helicopters (EC130 / H130 family) and is the only company on the island that sells individual seats on a scheduled sightseeing flight as well as chartering the whole aircraft — which is why the price list has two halves. The seat products are three: the scenic flight over phuket, about 30 minutes, join-in seat at 10,900–11,900 THB (≈ $330–361), the phang nga bay signature flight, about 40 minutes, join-in seat at 13,900 THB (≈ $421), and the aerial phuket & phang nga, about 60 minutes, join-in seat at 19,900 THB (≈ $603), all with taxes and fees inside the price. The charter products are the same aircraft with nobody else on it: 51,900 THB (≈ $1,573) for about forty minutes, 74,900 THB (≈ $2,271) for an hour, and 144,900 THB (≈ $4,393) for the two-hour circuit over Phang Nga Bay, Krabi, Phi Phi and back along the west coast.

Resellers list the same flights — a 30-minute join-in seat appears at $330 on one platform and $361 on the operator's own page — and the difference is the platform's margin and cancellation terms, not a different helicopter. Charter brokers add transfers between Phuket and Krabi or Khao Lak on request and, for landings at an airport rather than a helipad, ask for at least three days' notice; waiting time on a charter is included for the first two hours and billed at 5,600 THB (≈ $170) beyond that.

Tours: what the three routes show

The 30-minute Phuket flight leaves the heliport, crosses the airport beach at Mai Khao, follows the west coast south over Nai Yang, Nai Thon, Bang Tao and Surin, turns at the Kamala headland and comes back over the island's hills — enough to see every beach on this site's index from above and to understand why the west coast is one long line of bays. The 40-minute Phang Nga flight goes the other way, east over the mangroves of the bay to the limestone karsts, James Bond Island and the floating village at Koh Panyee, and is the flight most guests remember. The hour combines both; the two-hour private circuit adds Krabi's Railay cliffs and the Phi Phi islands, which cannot be seen from any road and take a full day by boat.

A seat flight is a shared aircraft with four or five other passengers and a fixed window; a private charter is the same route at the hour you choose, with doors-off photography or a landing at a resort helipad added by arrangement. For a private week the charter is the version that fits the plan: the flight goes on the clearest morning, leaves from the helipad nearest the villa where one exists, and can end at lunch on Koh Yao or at the marina where the yacht is waiting.

Transfers: airport to villa, airport to resort, Phuket to Krabi

A helicopter transfer from the airport to a villa is a charter, priced per flight rather than per seat, and quoted on request for the landing site: a resort helipad, a private estate with a cleared pad, or a field the operator has surveyed. Anantara Layan Phuket Resort at Layan Beach (15 km from the airport by road) publishes its own helipad and charter arrangement; a handful of estates on the Kamala headland and at Cape Yamu have pads of their own, and the operator will survey a new one for a guest who is staying long enough to justify it. For everyone else the honest answer is that the drive from the airport is twenty to sixty minutes to any address on the index and a limousine transfer is the transfer.

Where the helicopter earns its place as transport is off the island: Phuket to Krabi's Railay, to Khao Lak, to Koh Yao Noi or to a boat at anchor in Phang Nga Bay — journeys that are two to four hours by road and ferry and twenty to forty minutes in the air. Those are quoted per flight from the private-charter rates above, with the return positioning of the aircraft inside the price, and with three days' notice when a landing at Krabi airport is involved.

Weather and season: when the sky is clear

The chart of rain days is the same climate data the rest of the site uses — Open-Meteo (ERA5), 2015–2026, monthly medians over 2015–2025. January, February, March and December are the driest months, with a median of 10, 7, 14 and 16 rain days respectively, and January, February and March the sunniest at 329 h, 312 h and 343 h a day. May, October and November are the wettest — 28, 28 and 27 rain days — and in those months the flight is booked with a second date in reserve, because the operator does not fly through a squall line and does not charge for a weather cancellation.

The practical rule is the morning. Even in the green season the island usually wakes clear and the cloud builds over the hills after midday; a flight at eight or nine sees the bays and the karsts, a flight at three sees a wall of cumulus. Wind matters less than rain for the helicopter — the aircraft flies comfortably in the west-coast breeze that keeps boats in port — but the same morning that is clear for the flight is calm for the sea, and a private plan puts the flight and the yacht on different mornings so that a single grey day does not take both.

Rules, weights and what to bring

The operator's rules are the same as at any civil heliport: passport or ID for every passenger, check-in thirty minutes before the slot, a weight declared per passenger at booking because the seat plan is balanced by weight, and a soft bag rather than a suitcase for the transfer flights. Children fly from the age the operator sets on the booking page, on a parent's lap below a certain age and in a seat above it, and a child is a seat on a charter regardless. Doors-off photography is a charter option with a harness and a briefing; drones do not fly near the heliport or the aircraft. Prices on the operator's page include taxes and fees; broker prices may add a service charge and a card fee, and the plan the concierge team writes says which.

The reference figures on this page are the operator's and brokers' published rates checked on 5 sept. 2026, converted at the ECB rate of 2026-09-03 (32.985 THB per dollar). They are not quotes. A request through the form below returns the flight that fits the week — seat or charter, tour or transfer — on the clearest morning the forecast allows, with the car from the villa to the heliport inside the plan.

Questions fréquentes

How much is a helicopter tour in Phuket?

Per seat on a shared flight: 10,900–11,900 THB (≈ $330–361) for about 30 minutes over Phuket, 13,900 THB (≈ $421) for about 40 minutes over Phang Nga Bay, 19,900 THB (≈ $603) for an hour over both. For the whole aircraft: 51,900 THB (≈ $1,573) for about 40 minutes, 74,900 THB (≈ $2,271) for an hour, 144,900 THB (≈ $4,393) for the two-hour Phang Nga – Krabi – Phi Phi circuit. Rates checked 5 sept. 2026, taxes included on the operator's page.

Who operates helicopter tours in Phuket?

Skydance Helicopters (Advance Aviation), from a heliport beside Phuket International Airport in Sakhu, flying Airbus Helicopters (EC130 / H130 family). It is the only operator on the island selling individual seats on sightseeing flights as well as private charters; resellers and brokers list the same flights with their own margins and cancellation terms.

Can I take a helicopter from Phuket airport to my villa or resort?

Yes, as a private charter priced per flight and quoted for the landing site. Anantara Layan Phuket Resort at Layan Beach publishes its own helipad and charter arrangement; some estates on the Kamala headland and at Cape Yamu have pads. Without a pad, the road transfer of 20–60 minutes is the practical option; the helicopter earns its place for Krabi, Khao Lak, Koh Yao and boats at anchor.

When is the best time for a helicopter flight in Phuket?

January, February, March and December — the driest months in the 2015–2025 normals, with a median of 10, 7, 14 and 16 rain days. In any month, the morning: cloud builds over the hills after midday. May, October and November are the wettest and worth booking with a reserve date.

What happens if the weather cancels the flight?

The operator does not fly through squalls or low cloud and moves or refunds a weather cancellation without charge; a guest cancellation inside the operator's notice period is charged. On a private week the flight is booked with a second morning held, so that a grey day costs a change of order rather than the flight.

How many passengers fit in the helicopter?

Up to five or six passengers on the Airbus types operated, balanced by declared weight, which is why every passenger's weight is asked at booking. A private charter is the whole aircraft at the per-flight rate (51,900 THB (≈ $1,573) for about 40 minutes) regardless of how many seats are used; a child occupies a seat on a charter.

Is the helicopter price per person or per flight?

Both exist. The scenic tours sell per seat on a shared flight; charters, transfers and the two-hour circuit are per flight for the whole aircraft. Waiting time on a charter is included for the first two hours and billed per hour beyond that. Operator prices include taxes; brokers may add a service charge.
