Nai Harn Beach is 700 m of sand in 奈汉, open to the south-west monsoon, lifeguarded in daylight, reached by 公路 free of charge. Best months to swim: November–April; rip-current risk from May to October: high. Good for swimming, children, surfing, snorkelling, sunset.
奈汉 is the south's swimming bay and many residents' favourite beach on the island: seven hundred metres of pale sand with a moderate gradient between two forested headlands, a monastery at the northern end, a freshwater lake and casuarinas behind, and in the high season water clear enough to see your feet in chest depth and a fleet of yachts at anchor offshore. The northern end near the monastery is the quietest; the southern end has the loungers and vendors. From May to October it turns into a surf beach with a fast shore-break and rips that run out along the headlands — a good intermediate break, a bad beginner one on big days, and a red-flagged swim for much of the season with busy lifeguards. Ya Nui and Ao Sane, the small snorkelling coves either side, are five minutes away.
