Short answer
Rawai Beach is 2 km of sand in 拉威, sheltered from the south-west monsoon, lifeguarded in daylight, reached by 公路 free of charge. Best months to swim: November–April; rip-current risk from May to October: low. Good for sunset, island boats.
拉威 is a shore, not a swimming beach: two kilometres of sand and mud facing south-east, lined with longtails and fishing boats, a sea-gypsy village at one end and the pier and seafood market at the other. At low tide it is mostly flat and the water is not clean enough to recommend. Its point is the pier, from which longtails and speedboats leave for Koh Bon, Koh Lon, Coral Island and Racha — the cheapest way to the small islands from anywhere on Phuket — and the market, where the day's catch is weighed and cooked across the road. A lifeguard post returned to 拉威 in 2025 mainly for the boat traffic and the occasional swimmer. For swimming, 奈汉 is ten minutes west; the sheltered aspect means the sea here is calm in the green season, but calm is not the same as clean.
