नाई थोन is a kilometre of pale, fine sand in a bay between two rocky headlands inside Sirinat National Park, with a handful of hotels, one row of restaurants and the feeling of an island that has not been developed. The bay is sheltered enough for clean, easy swimming in the high season, and both headlands have rocks and coral in shallow water — the snorkelling at the northern end is among the best you can reach from the sand on the west coast. The wet season changes it: waves come straight in, the shore-break dumps and the rips run out along the rocks at both ends, with no lifeguard post; treat a flagged day as a walking day. Banana Beach, the tiny cove over the southern headland, is the day trip everyone staying here makes.
