A three-star hotel on Phuket is a private, air-conditioned room with an en-suite bathroom, usually a small pool, often breakfast, and a location a few minutes on foot from the beach rather than on it. In the resort towns — 빠통, 까론, 까따, 까말라 — it is the mid-sized hotel one or two streets back from the beach road; in 나이양, 라와이 and 찰롱 it is the family-run guesthouse or small resort; in 푸켓타운 it is a renovated shophouse or a business hotel near the malls. What the class does not include is beach frontage, resort grounds, a kids club or several restaurants — for those, the four-star column is the one to read.
Two things to keep in mind when reading this page. Star ratings are declared by the properties themselves, so a three-star in 수린 and a three-star in 빠통 are not the same product, and the ranges show that. And 'budget' here means the cheapest rated class in the index, not the cheapest bed on the island: hostels, dormitories and one- and two-star properties are kept in the raw snapshot but are not published as a segment, so the true floor in 빠통 or 푸켓타운 is below the three-star median. The sample sizes tell you where the class is deep (빠통, 까따, 나이양, 찰롱, 푸켓타운) and where it barely exists (라얀, 나이톤, 마이카오).
Where a three-star hotel is cheapest, and where it is not
12 of the 15 areas have a published three-star median in September 2026, and it runs from $16 in 빠통 to $57 in 판와, 3.6 times as much for the same declared class. The island-wide three-star median is $34 (n = 177); 빠통, 까론, 푸켓타운 and 나이양 sit below it, 까따, 수린, 찰롱, 나이한, 까말라, 방따오 and 판와 above. The cheapest districts are the ones with a town around the hotels and many of them competing; the priciest are the ones where the resort is the district and the sample is a handful of large properties.
라얀 (3), 나이톤 (1) and 마이카오 (3) have fewer than five three-star hotels in the sample, so the index publishes the count and no median — the class exists there, but a figure from one or two properties would describe those properties, not the district. The deepest sample is 까따 with 24 three-star hotels, which makes its median the most stable number in the table.
Reading the ranges
The low and high columns are the 25th and 75th percentiles — the middle half of the three-star hotels in each area — and their width says how homogeneous the class is there. The widest spread is in 판와, where the 75th percentile ($98) is 3 times the 25th ($33); the tightest is 수린 at $35 – $37, 1.1 to 1. A wide range means two products share one star count — a village hotel and a residence sold by the night, a beach-road hotel and a headland resort — and the median is a compromise between them. A tight range means the area's three-star hotels are genuinely alike, and the median is a price you can plan on.
Ratings are declared by the properties themselves on the booking platforms, not audited, so a three-star listing in one district is not the same promise as in another. The area pages of this hub describe what the hotel stock actually looks like street by street; where the range here is wide, that description matters more than the median.
저가 (3성급) against the other classes
Island-wide, a three-star room at $34 compares with $62 for four-star (n = 210) and $141 for five-star (n = 87) in September 2026; the all-class median, hostels and unrated properties included in the sample, is $50 (n = 618). The step up to four stars costs $28 a night island-wide, 82% — and in the resort towns, where the four-star hotels are on the beach road and the three-star ones a street behind, that is mostly the price of the location.
The observation behind all of these figures is the same fixed search — one night, two adults, check-in thirty days after the snapshot, cheapest available room, before taxes and fees — repeated monthly, so the classes are compared like with like and the next revision moves every column at once. The observation month is printed next to every figure; the current one was taken in the low season.
How much does a three-star hotel in Phuket cost per night?
$34 a night is the island-wide median for a three-star hotel (n = 177, September 2026), with the middle half of the sample between $25 – $51. Two adults, one night booked thirty days ahead, before taxes and fees, observed in the low season; by area it runs from $16 in 빠통 to $57 in 판와.
What is the cheapest area in Phuket for a three-star hotel?
빠통, at a median of $16 a night (n = 22, September 2026), followed by 까론 ($30), 푸켓타운 ($30) and 나이양 ($32). 라얀, 나이톤 and 마이카오 are not ranked: fewer than five three-star hotels in the sample.
Which area of Phuket has the most expensive three-star hotels?
판와, at a median of $57 a night (n = 5, September 2026), 3.6 times the cheapest area's median. Next come 방따오 ($52) and 까말라 ($52). These are the districts where the resort is the destination and there is no town to undercut it.
Is a budget hotel in Phuket the cheapest way to stay?
Not quite: the three-star class is the cheapest rated class the index publishes, but hostels, dormitories and one- and two-star guesthouses sit below it and are counted only in the all-class median ($50 island-wide, n = 618). The three-star median is $34 against $62 for four stars in September 2026. In 빠통, 푸켓타운, 라와이 and 찰롱 the true floor is a guesthouse or a dorm bed well under the three-star median.
