What the eight prices are

The table above is the tours series of the Phuket Travel Price Index: one per-adult figure for the standard, join-in version of each of the eight day trips Phuket sells more than anything else. Standard means the product an operator lists first — the full-day speedboat to Phi Phi, the big boat or speedboat with sea-canoes into Phang Nga Bay, the Similan speedboat with breakfast and lunch, the Coral-and-Racha day from Чалонг, the half-day at an observation or no-riding elephant sanctuary, the two-to-four-hour Old Town walk or food walk, the half-day Big Buddha and Wat Chalong minibus, and the catamaran or big-boat sunset cruise. Private boats, yachts, party boats, sunrise variants and private-car city tours are left out of the sample on purpose: they are priced per boat or per car and would drag any median away from what one adult actually pays.

Each figure is a median of independent listings observed in сентябрь 2026 г. with the sample size next to it, and the range is the 25th to the 75th percentile of that sample, not the cheapest and dearest listings found. All 8 segments cleared the minimum sample of five this month. Nothing is estimated from last month or borrowed from a similar tour. Across the 8 medians the middle value — the price of a typical day out — is $60, with Big Buddha & temples at the bottom ($26) and Elephant sanctuary at the top ($88).

Island trips: four boats, three parks, one calm season

Ranked by median, the island trips run Coral / Racha $39, James Bond Island $52, Phi Phi Islands $63 and Similan Islands $76, and the order is mostly geography. Coral and Racha are fifteen to forty-five minutes from Chalong Pier with no national park, so there is no fee and little fuel. Phang Nga Bay is a longer day but a sheltered one — the bay is enclosed by the mainland and Phuket's east coast, which is why the James Bond trip is the island tour that keeps running in the monsoon. Phi Phi is forty-five to sixty minutes of open water each way from Rassada, with the 400 THB park fee on top and Maya Bay closed from 1 August to 30 September every year. The Similans are the dearest because they are not a Phuket trip at all: the boat leaves Tab Lamu pier in Phang Nga province, the drive from a Phuket hotel is an hour and a half to two hours each way, and the park is open only from 15 October to 15 May. Land and evening: the sanctuary, the old town, the hill and the sunset

The four non-island tours rank Big Buddha & temples $26, Old Town walk $59, Sunset cruise $60 and Elephant sanctuary $88. The elephant sanctuary is the one tour that costs more than a full sea day, and the reason is the herd: an ethical sanctuary — no riding, no hooks, no shows — lives on visitor fees, so the ticket is the elephants' food budget. The Old Town walk is priced for a guide's time rather than a bus seat, and the food-walk version includes four to eight tastings, which is why it sits above the plain walk. The Big Buddha half-day is the cheapest organised tour on the island because both of its main sites are free to enter; the ticket buys an air-conditioned minibus, a guide and the viewpoints in between. The sunset cruise is a late-start sea day from Чалонг with dinner or snacks and a swim stop, which makes it the natural second outing after Phi Phi — and, because Chalong Bay is sheltered, a monsoon-season option alongside the Phang Nga trip.

Park fees and other cash on the day

Three of the eight tours enter a national park, and the park fee is almost never in the headline price: 400 THB per foreign adult at Phi Phi (200 THB per child), 300 THB in Phang Nga Bay (150 THB) and 500 THB at the Similans (250 THB), checked 5 сент. 2026 г.. It goes to the Department of National Parks, it is collected in cash — on the boat, at the checkpoint or by the guide before landing — and at Phi Phi one ticket covers Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon and Bamboo Island on the same day. Budget it as part of the price, because the operator will. The other recurring extras are fins and towels (rented, not included), the pickup surcharge for outlying areas — Май Кхао, Най Янг and Панва most often — the tip for the sea-canoe paddler on the Phang Nga trip, alcohol on the sunset cruise, sunbeds and water sports on Coral Island, and museum entry or transport to Пхукет-Таун on the Old Town walk. None of these is a hidden charge; they are simply outside the join-in ticket, and the tour pages list them for each trip.

When to go: the sea decides, not the calendar

The month table on this page is built from the marine normals used across this site — the median number of rough-sea days and the median maximum wave height for each calendar month on the west coast, from Open-Meteo (ERA5), 2015–2026 with marine data from 2022-01. The calm months are January, February, March, April, October, November and December: a median of zero to two rough days, and every island trip runs to schedule. May and June are swell months — three to eight rough days — when the Phi Phi crossing is uncomfortable on some mornings and the Harbour Department occasionally holds speedboats in port. July, August and September are rough: nine or more rough days in a typical year, the Similans closed, Maya Bay closed in August and September, and the sensible sea day is Phang Nga Bay, where the bay is enclosed and the risk is a shower rather than a swell.

The trips that do not care about the sea are the ones to hold for a wet week: James Bond Island, Elephant sanctuary and Sunset cruise. The sanctuary is inland and partly under cover, the Old Town is on the sheltered east side, the Big Buddha view is clearest before the afternoon cloud builds, and the sunset cruise hugs the south coast — though between May and October the sunset itself is often a cloud bank, so the swim stop and the dinner are the safer part of that promise. The Similans are a calendar rule rather than a weather one: the park is shut from 16 May to 14 October and nothing runs; a listing that sells a Similan day in July is selling a different island.

Three prices exist for the same seat. The operator's own price is the lowest published one and is what the index observes first; the marketplace price — Klook, GetYourGuide, Viator — is usually within a few dollars of it and comes with a refund policy and a card payment; the hotel-desk or street-agent price is the same seat with a commission added on the day, and it is the one most visitors pay because it is the one in front of them. Booking a day ahead online, or directly with the operator by message, removes the third price. The buttons next to the table go to marketplace listings for the standard version of each tour; they are affiliate links, disclosed below the table, and the index figures do not depend on them.

Compare like with like. A Phi Phi price that looks half the median is the big-boat version — twice the crossing time, fewer stops — and a James Bond price at the top of the range is the speedboat with beach stops rather than the classic big boat with canoes. A per-person quote well above the range on the Big Buddha, Old Town or sunset segments is usually a private product with a minimum of two, which the index excludes. A listing that includes the park fee is rare and worth the difference; a listing that promises swimming at Maya Bay, elephant riding or bathing at a 'sanctuary', or a Similan trip in the closed season is describing something that does not exist and should be read as a warning about everything else on the page.

Two practical rules save the most money and the most arguments. First, confirm the pickup: west-coast pickups for Phi Phi start at 06:30–07:30 and the Similan van leaves Phuket at 05:00–06:30, and a no-show after the van has gone is charged in full, while a rough-sea cancellation by the Harbour Department is refunded or rebooked. Second, carry the cash: the park fee, the fins, the paddler's tip and the sunbeds are all paid in baht on the day, and the nearest ATM to a speedboat is on the pier before boarding, not on the island.

Choosing by where you stay

Every join-in tour includes a hotel pickup loop, and the loop is where an eight-hour day becomes ten. The piers are on the east and south of the island: Rassada in Пхукет-Таун for Phi Phi, Чалонг for Coral, Racha and the sunset cruise, Ao Po and Bang Rong on the north-east coast for Phang Nga Bay, and Tab Lamu on the mainland for the Similans. Guests in Пхукет-Таун, Панва and Чалонг have the shortest transfers to Rassada and Чалонг; Банг Тао, Лаян and the north are closest to Ao Po for the James Bond trip and to the highway north for the Similans; Патонг, Ката and Карон sit in the middle of every loop and are collected first and dropped last. The elephant sanctuaries are inland in Pa Khlok, Thalang and Cherng Talay, so the north and Банг Тао have the shortest sanctuary transfer, and the Old Town walk starts in Пхукет-Таун without a transfer at all — a taxi from the west coast is a separate cost. How this series is measured

Tours are the one series in the index measured by hand rather than by script: on the 1st and the 15th of each month the standard version of each activity is priced from independent operator price lists and marketplace listings, one observation per source, per adult, with pickup, lunch and snorkel gear checked as included and the park fee recorded as extra rather than added. Prices quoted in baht are converted once at the reference rate written into that month's observations. A segment with fewer than five independent listings publishes its range and no median; a private, charter or party product is removed from the sample when it is recognised, and the catalogue notes say when that happened. The whole series, with medians, ranges, sample sizes and observation months, is in the open-data export under CC BY 4.0; the source names and URLs behind each observation are internal verification fields and are not published.
