Freedom Beach is 300 m of sand in Patong, open to the south-west monsoon, without lifeguards, reached by path 20 min / boat for 100 THB. Best months to swim: November–April; rip-current risk from May to October: high. Good for snorkelling, quiet.
Freedom Beach is the cove beyond Paradise, over the headland from Patong and reachable only by boat or on foot: three hundred metres of fine white sand, granite boulders at both ends with good snorkelling in calm water, jungle behind, a shack selling drinks and noodles, and nothing else. Longtails from the southern end of Patong charge per boat for the return trip and wait; the alternative is a steep path from the Patong–Karon road where the landowner collects a fee. It faces the open Andaman and takes the full south-west swell from May to October, when the boats stop and the beach is unsafe for swimming with nobody watching. In the high season it is the best morning within reach of Patong; go early, before the boat tours arrive at ten.

Freedom Beach is open to the south-west monsoon, which decides its year. It takes the south-west swell directly, so it follows the island's marine normals exactly: a calm sea in October–April and rough-sea days in May–September, when red flags fly on rough days and the rip-current risk is high. There are no lifeguards at any time, and no one is watching on a rough day. Caught in a rip: float, swim parallel to the beach until the pull stops, then in.
