Frequently asked questions

What does the Phuket Travel Price Index measure?

Five series: hotel nights by area and class (3, 4 and 5 stars), villa nights and months by area and bedrooms (2, 3, 4+), day-tour prices per person, airport transfers by area and vehicle, and a daily living budget at three levels. That is 35 segments across 15 areas, current revision September 2026.

Why medians instead of averages?

A median is not pulled up by one luxury listing or down by one hostel, so it describes what a typical booking costs. The low and high of the sample are published next to it, so the spread is visible rather than hidden in an average.

What does "n" mean, and why do some cells say "no data"?

n is the number of observations behind a figure. A segment with fewer than 5 observations is published as no data — null is better than a guess. Nothing is filled from other areas or extrapolated from earlier months.

Which travel date do the prices refer to?

Each observation is taken for a fixed travel date 30 days ahead of the observation day (the 1st and 15th of the month), so points are comparable across months. The season of that travel date is recorded with every point.

Are the prices in US dollars or Thai baht?

All index figures are in US dollars. Budgets in other currencies on the country pages are converted with the exchange rate on file, and the rate date is printed next to the converted figure.

Where do the prices come from?

Public listing prices, partner price feeds and on-island checks. Source names and URLs are stored with every observation for our own verification but are not published; the index never republishes a third-party catalogue. Official statistical sources used elsewhere on the site are listed on the sources page.

Can I download the whole index?

Yes — the full index is available as JSON on the open-data page under CC BY 4.0. Reuse requires a visible attribution link to phukettravels.com; the JSON carries medians, ranges, sample sizes and as-of dates for every area and series.
