Laem Ka Beach is 200 m of sand in Rawai, sheltered from the south-west monsoon, without lifeguards, reached by path 15 min / boat free of charge. Best months to swim: all year; rip-current risk from May to October: low. Good for snorkelling, quiet, children.
Laem Ka is the small east-facing cove on the cape between Rawai and Chalong, and one of the few beaches on the island that is swimmable through the south-west monsoon because the whole of Phuket sits between it and the weather: white sand, clear shallow water, a reef of rocks at each end and a view across to Koh Lon. Access is the catch. The path runs through private land whose gate is sometimes locked; when it is, the options are a longer walk round or a longtail from Rawai pier ten minutes away. There are no facilities and no lifeguards, and low tide leaves the bay shallow and weedy. Locals swim here on green-season mornings when the west coast is flagged.

The table above applies the island's marine normals to this beach: median rough-sea days per calendar month from Open-Meteo (ERA5), 2015–2026 (2015–2025, marine fields from 2022), damped by the beach's shelter, and median sea-surface temperature from Open-Meteo Marine API (2022-12–2026-08). Calm months here: all year. No month is rough here on the model. The sea is 28.8–31.0 °C as monthly medians, warm in every month; temperature never decides a swim on Phuket, the sea state does. The best-months row is the beach's own calm season and is derived, not opinion.
Laem Ka Beach is sheltered from the south-west monsoon, which decides its year. The island sits between the beach and the south-west monsoon, so the marine reanalysis's rough-sea months (May–September, island-wide) barely register here: the beach is swimmable in every month and the rip-current risk is low even in the wet season. The trade-offs of a sheltered beach are greener, less clear water, boat traffic and shallows at low tide. Phuket records around 30–40 drownings a year, most of them between May and October on the open west coast; the hospitals catalogue names the nearest 24-hour emergency room from Rawai, and the emergency number is 1669. Jellyfish drift in after storms on the whole coast; vinegar is the first aid.
