Short answer
Surin Beach is 800 m of sand in Surin, open to the south-west monsoon, lifeguarded in daylight, reached by Straße free of charge. Best months to swim: November–April; rip-current risk from May to October: high. Good for swimming, quiet, snorkelling, sunset.
Surin is eight hundred metres of sand backed by casuarinas and steeper than Bang Tao to the north: the sand drops fast into deep water, which makes for excellent swimming in the high season and a dumping shore-break in the wet. It has been cleared twice — in 2016, when the beach clubs and restaurants that lined the sand were demolished, and again in 2025, when the vendors, chairs and loungers that had crept back were moved across the beach road, leaving the sand as bare as it was decades ago. The trade-off is fewer facilities on the beach itself; the hotels and restaurants of Surin are a road's width away. Between May and October the profile means the water is over your head within a few steps on rough days and the red flags matter more here than almost anywhere; lifeguards patrol in daylight. Pansea, the cove over the northern headland, is the hotels' beach.

It takes the south-west swell directly, so it follows the island's marine normals exactly: a calm sea in October–April and rough-sea days in May–September, when red flags fly on rough days and the rip-current risk is high. Lifeguards patrol in daylight; a red flag means the sea is closed to swimming, and the guards will whistle swimmers out. Caught in a rip: float, swim parallel to the beach until the pull stops, then in.
