Bang Tao Beach is 6 km of sand in 방따오, open to the south-west monsoon, lifeguarded in daylight, reached by 도로 free of charge. Best months to swim: November–April; rip-current risk from May to October: high. Good for swimming, children, quiet, sunset.
방따오 is long enough to change character three times: the southern end near 수린 has the beach clubs and the Laguna hotels' loungers, the middle in front of the villa estates is wide and mostly empty, and the northern end towards 라얀 has fishing boats, a couple of seafood shacks and more sand than people. The gradient is gentle for most of its length and the water clear in the high season, which makes it the north's family beach. In the wet season it has a moderate shore-break and rips, and red flags go up on rough days, though it is generally kinder than 수린 or 까론; the northern end near 라얀 is the most sheltered. Lifeguards patrol the busier stretches in daylight. Jellyfish arrive after storms — ask the beach-club staff, who are in the water daily.
