Phuket Old Town is the part of the island that was here before tourism: the tin-mining port built by Hokkien Chinese merchants in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with its Sino-Portuguese shophouses along Thalang, Dibuk, Krabi and Yaowarat Roads, its Chinese shrines and its Peranakan food.
