Surin's hotel stock is top-heavy, and the prices show it. The northern headland above Pansea Beach holds Amanpuri, the first Aman ever built, and The Surin Phuket shares the same cove; Twinpalms Phuket, a short walk from the sand on the Surin–Bang Tao road, has been the area's design-hotel anchor for two decades. The three- and four-star bracket is a handful of boutique properties — Manathai Surin among them — on the flat behind the beach and along Srisoonthorn Road. There are no hostels.
What makes Surin unusual in the index is the width of its ranges: the four-star sample stretches from ordinary boutique rates to headland resorts that describe themselves as four-star, so the median says less than the quartiles do. The real Surin market is villas: private-pool houses on the hills above the beach, along the road to Kamala and in the estates inland towards Cherngtalay. Condominiums are fewer than in Bang Tao and mostly low-rise and upmarket. If the hotel figures look high, that is the district, not an error.
Eight hundred metres of steep, fine sand that drops fast into deep water — superb swimming in the high season and a dumping shore-break in the wet. Between May and October Surin is one of the beaches where the red flags matter most; Pansea, the small cove over the northern headland, is the sheltered alternative.
