Chalong is the working end of the island — marina, dive pier, Big Buddha hill and the Muay Thai gyms of Soi Ta-iad — and its hotels are practical rather than resort-like. Guesthouses near the pier serve divers on early boats; a few mid-range hotels line Chao Fa Road; the gym-affiliated rooms on Soi Ta-iad are the standard for fighters on a training visa, a bed and a fan at a price to match.
