Phuket Town's hotels are boutique in the Old Town and business-oriented outside it. In the shophouse grid the addresses are renovated heritage buildings — The Memory at On On Hotel, the island's oldest, Casa Blanca on Phuket Road — plus a dozen small guesthouses and a good stock of hostels for backpackers and remote workers. Beyond the grid, the chain hotels serve business travellers: Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town and mid-range hotels near the malls and the bus terminal.
That mix produces one of the lowest three-star medians on the island and an all-classes figure well under the island's, with no five-star sample at all: there are no beach resorts and no beach. The town is the choice for food, architecture and the Sunday walking street on Thalang Road, with the nearest sea at Ao Yon on the Panwa cape twenty minutes away and Kata or Karon thirty to forty minutes west.
