Ce que la catégorie vous offre
Four-star is the widest class on Phuket and the one most visitors book. At its floor it is a city-style hotel with a pool, a restaurant and a gym; at its ceiling it is a beachfront resort with grounds, a spa and a kids club that has simply not asked for a fifth star. Both sit in the same column, which is why the low–high range for this class is broader than for three-star almost everywhere, and why the quartiles are worth more than the median in districts like Surin, Layan and Bang Tao where 'four-star' includes residences and villas sold by the night.
Location is the other variable. In Patong, Karon and Kata the four-star hotels are on or just behind the beach road; in Bang Tao they are inside or around the Laguna complex; in Kamala they are the family resorts on the flat; in Nai Yang and Mai Khao they are the resorts along the beach road with nothing else around. The class median in each area is therefore a fair summary of what a resort-standard night costs there, and the ranking below is a useful shortlist for a first trip: the cheapest districts in this class are the ones with many hotels and a town around them, and the priciest are the ones where the resort is the district.
Where a four-star hotel is cheapest, and where it is not
15 of the 15 areas have a published four-star median in September 2026, and it runs from $42 in Patong to $231 in Mai Khao, 5.5 times as much for the same declared class. The island-wide four-star median is $62 (n = 210); Patong, Rawai, Nai Yang, Chalong, Karon, Phuket Town and Nai Harn sit below it, Kamala, Kata, Bang Tao, Nai Thon, Panwa, Surin, Layan and Mai Khao above. The cheapest districts are the ones with a town around the hotels and many of them competing; the priciest are the ones where the resort is the district and the sample is a handful of large properties.
Every area reaches the minimum sample of five for the four-star class in September 2026. The deepest sample is Bang Tao with 22 hotels.
Reading the ranges
The low and high columns are the 25th and 75th percentiles — the middle half of the four-star hotels in each area — and their width says how homogeneous the class is there. The widest spread is in Surin, where the 75th percentile ($427) is 7.9 times the 25th ($54); the tightest is Nai Harn at $51 – $73, 1.4 to 1. A wide range means two products share one star count — a village hotel and a residence sold by the night, a beach-road hotel and a headland resort — and the median is a compromise between them. A tight range means the area's four-star hotels are genuinely alike, and the median is a price you can plan on.
Ratings are declared by the properties themselves on the booking platforms, not audited, so a four-star listing in one district is not the same promise as in another. The area pages of this hub describe what the hotel stock actually looks like street by street; where the range here is wide, that description matters more than the median.
4 étoiles against the other classes
Island-wide, a four-star room at $62 compares with $34 for three-star (n = 177) and $141 for five-star (n = 87) in September 2026; the all-class median, hostels and unrated properties included in the sample, is $50 (n = 618). The step up to five stars is smallest in Layan (the five-star median is $62 lower) and largest in Karon ($196 more, 408%).
The observation behind all of these figures is the same fixed search — one night, two adults, check-in thirty days after the snapshot, cheapest available room, before taxes and fees — repeated monthly, so the classes are compared like with like and the next revision moves every column at once. The observation month is printed next to every figure; the current one was taken in the low season.
How much does a four-star hotel in Phuket cost per night?
$62 a night is the island-wide median for a four-star hotel (n = 210, September 2026), with the middle half of the sample between $41 – $134. Two adults, one night booked thirty days ahead, before taxes and fees, observed in the low season; by area it runs from $42 in Patong to $231 in Mai Khao.
What is the cheapest area in Phuket for a four-star hotel?
Patong, at a median of $42 a night (n = 10, September 2026), followed by Rawai ($43), Nai Yang ($45) and Chalong ($45).
Which area of Phuket has the most expensive four-star hotels?
Mai Khao, at a median of $231 a night (n = 15, September 2026), 5.5 times the cheapest area's median. Next come Layan ($169) and Surin ($131). These are the districts where the resort is the destination and there is no town to undercut it.
Is a four-star hotel in Phuket worth it over a three-star?
Island-wide the four-star median is $62 against $34 for three-star, a premium of 82% in September 2026. Whether it is worth it depends on the district: where the ranges of the two classes overlap they are competing for the same guest, and where they do not the classes are different products. Read the ranges on the area page before deciding.
