Best beaches to visit in Phuket

Phuket's beaches are the reason most people come, and the ones that make this list are the ones that reward a special trip rather than a walk from the hotel: the boat-only coves over the Patong headland, the south's clearest bay, the golden cove between Kamala and Surin that lost its road. Each entry here is a pointer to the full beach page, where the sea by month, lifeguard cover, rip-current risk and facilities are set out from the marine data and the 2025 clean-ups. The beaches catalogue on this site compares all 25; this page is the shortlist.

The list

Freedom Beach (Patong)

Patong · Beaches · 4 h

100–200 THB ≈ $3–6 · price dated Sep 5, 2026

Hours: Daylight; longtails run in calm weather only

Best time: November–April mornings; the cove faces west and takes the green-season swell

Season: No road — a steep path from the Patong–Karon road (with a fee) or a longtail from Patong beach

Kids: No · Rain: No

The cove over the southern headland from Patong that appears in every 'hidden beaches' list: 300 metres of pale sand between granite headlands, clear water and snorkelling at both ends, a couple of drinks vendors and no road. Access is either a longtail from the south end of Patong beach (a boat costs roughly 1,200–1,800 THB return, more if you bargain badly) or a steep twenty-minute path from the coast road through private land where 100–200 THB is collected. It is worth the effort in the calm months and not safe from the water in the wet ones. Full details, sea by month and safety are on the beach page.

Source: Visitor guides, 2025–2026: 100–200 THB entry via the private path; longtail from Patong about 1,200–1,800 THB return per boat

Laem Sing Beach (Kamala–Surin)

Kamala · Beaches · 3 h

Free price dated Sep 5, 2026

Hours: Daylight; boats from Surin in calm weather

Best time: November–April; reached by a rock path or a five-minute boat from the north end of Surin

Season: The old staircase from the coast road has been closed since the 2017 land dispute — access is from Surin only

Kids: No · Rain: No · Free

A 300-metre cove of golden sand under granite boulders between Kamala and Surin, the prettiest small beach on the west coast and one that keeps its quiet because it has no road. Since the staircase from the coast road closed in 2017 the ways in are a fifteen-minute scramble along the rocks from the northern end of Surin or the small boats that shuttle from the same spot for a few minutes' ride. There are a few vendors and no loungers to speak of. It faces west and takes the green-season swell; go in the calm months. The beach page has the sea by month and access details.

Source: No entry fee; boats from Surin charge per seat (varies), 2025–2026

Nai Harn Beach

Nai Harn · Beaches · 4 h

Free price dated Sep 5, 2026

Hours: Always open; lifeguards in daylight

Best time: November–April for swimming; May–October for surfing

Season: Red flags for much of the green season; the lake behind the beach is the shaded picnic spot

Kids: Yes · Rain: No · Free

The south's best swimming bay: 700 metres of pale sand between two headlands, a monastery at one end, a lake and casuarinas behind it, and in the high season some of the clearest water on the island and a yacht anchorage offshore. Free, with parking, loungers at the southern end and a row of restaurants on the lake road. From May to October it turns into a surf beach with a fast shore-break and rips off the headlands — a good intermediate surf spot and a red-flagged swim. Ya Nui and Ao Sane, the two small snorkelling coves either side, are five minutes away. The beach page has the sea by month and facilities.

About this category

Phuket's beaches are the reason most people come, and the ones that make this list are the ones that reward a special trip rather than a walk from the hotel: the boat-only coves over the Patong headland, the south's clearest bay, the golden cove between Kamala and Surin that lost its road. Each entry here is a pointer to the full beach page, where the sea by month, lifeguard cover, rip-current risk and facilities are set out from the marine data and the 2025 clean-ups. The beaches catalogue on this site compares all 25; this page is the shortlist.

Timing decides everything on the west coast. The island's marine normals put rough-sea days in May–September and a calm sea in October–April; the boat-only coves are not reachable in the swell and the open beaches fly red flags. Ao Yon on the Panwa cape and Laem Ka near Rawai face away from the monsoon and are the green-season answer.

The list, in numbers

3 entries across 3 areas (Patong, Kamala, Nai Harn); 2 free, 0 that work in rain, 1 suitable for children. The cheapest dated price is Freedom Beach at 100–200 THB. From Nai Harn the nearest entry is Nai Harn Beach, 0.4 km in a straight line; from Mai Khao it is 20.6 km to Laem Sing Beach, about 60 minutes on the site's indicative road model. Distances in the table are straight-line from the area centre and the minutes come from a stated model (1.4 × the straight line at 30 km/h); they say which entry is nearest, not how long the taxi takes on a wet-season evening.

Prices are dated anchors from the operators and resellers, or — for the packaged boat trips — the median the site's tours index measured across operators in its latest monthly snapshot; a dash means no honest figure exists. Dollar values use the ECB reference rate on file (32.98 THB per dollar, Sep 3, 2026). The full catalogue of places and activities, with the top-ten short answer and the by-area table, is on the things-to-do hub; the beaches catalogue covers all 25 beaches with the sea by month.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best beaches options in Phuket?

3 entries are listed on this page: Freedom Beach, Laem Sing Beach, Nai Harn Beach. Each carries its area, hours, a dated price or the tours-index median, and whether it works with children and in rain. This is a catalogue with sources, not a ranking; the hub's short answer gives a three-day order.

How much do beaches activities cost in Phuket?

2 of the 3 entries are free (Laem Sing Beach, Nai Harn Beach). Dated prices run from 100–200 THB (Freedom Beach). Every figure carries its date and source; boat trips show the tours-index median per person. Nothing is estimated — an entry without a dated figure shows a dash.

Which area is best for beaches in Phuket?

The entries are in Patong, Kamala, Nai Harn. Nai Harn is the closest area to an entry (Nai Harn Beach, 0.4 km); Mai Khao is the farthest (20.6 km to Laem Sing Beach, ≈ 60 min on the stated road model). The nearest-by-area table on this page gives the figure for every area, and each area page lists hotels, villa rents and the airport transfer for staying there.
